While this panda feasts on bamboo, it is quite unlike its black and white brethren. More reminiscent of raccoons, skunks and weasels, this Himalayas/China resident is slightly larger than a domestic cat and indulges in eggs, small mammals and birds as opposed to solely bamboo. Though like the traditional panda, the red panda’s numbers are in decline: the International Union for Conservation of Nature recently defined the red panda population as “vulnerable” due largely to habitat loss.
